codex - 💡(How to fix) Fix Add support for “Open with Codex” in OS Finder / Explorer

Summary

I would like to report a major usability issue / feature gap in the Codex IDE/Desktop experience.

After installing Codex, it does not appear in the operating system right-click context menu when I right-click a file or folder and try to open it with Codex.

For example, when I right-click any file in the file manager and choose an “Open with” style action, Codex is not available as an option.

Why this matters

This makes it much harder to start working on an existing file or project with Codex. Users expect an IDE or coding tool to integrate with the OS file manager so they can quickly open files/folders directly from the context menu.

This is especially important for accessibility and keyboard/screen reader workflows because opening a file or project from the system file manager can be easier and faster than manually navigating through the app UI.

Expected behavior

Codex should provide an option such as:

• “Open with Codex” for files
• “Open folder with Codex” for folders/projects
• OS-level registration so Codex appears in the standard right-click “Open with” menu where appropriate

Actual behavior

Codex does not appear in the right-click “Open with” menu for files/folders, so I cannot quickly open local files or projects with Codex from the file manager.

Suggested improvement

Please add OS integration for Codex so it can be launched from file/folder context menus, similar to other IDEs/editors.

This would improve discoverability, workflow speed, and accessibility for users who rely on keyboard and screen readers.
