What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Lastest

What subscription do you have?

Edu

What platform is your computer?

Windows 11

What issue are you seeing?

I have Codex running with a signed-in edu account. Today, after launching it again, it just showed kind of nothing (see screenshot below). Sometimes, the original UI glitches through, though.

Also, was unresponsive. After closing it from the tray context menu and starting again, an empty window showed, but not even the tray icon got shown. Retries showed the same result. I then checked the Windows store for updates. There was one, so I installed it through there. Then, the same issue as originally happened. Tray icon shows, but the app itself is completely empty:

And it uses huge amount of CPU (I have a rather powerful laptop):

I hope that there is a chance to fix this ASAP, that I won't lose any history and that I can continue using Codex.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Not entirely sure, but the description gives my suspicion what causes this.

What is the expected behavior?

extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue might be resolved by reinstalling the Codex App or checking for any corrupted files that could be causing the empty window and high CPU usage.

Guidance

  • Try uninstalling and then reinstalling the Codex App to ensure a clean installation and remove any potentially corrupted files.
  • Check if there are any other processes or background applications that could be interfering with the Codex App's functionality.
  • Monitor the system's resource usage to see if the high CPU usage is specific to the Codex App or a broader system issue.
  • Consider reaching out to the Codex App support team for further assistance, as the issue may be related to the specific Edu subscription or account configuration.

Notes

The provided information does not give a clear indication of the root cause, so these steps are speculative and aimed at troubleshooting common issues that could lead to the described behavior.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Reinstall the Codex App, as this is a non-invasive step that can potentially resolve the issue without losing any history or data.
