After /agent add bootstrap interview shipped, we want to layer role templates on top.

Context

After /agent add bootstrap interview shipped, we want to layer role templates on top.

Decision

For early access (EA), no templates. /agent add spawns a blank agent that runs its own interview to define role + capabilities + reports_to. User-driven.

Future scope

After EA, ship preset roles:

  • engineer (Bash, Edit, Write, Grep, Glob)
  • researcher (WebFetch, Grep, Glob, Read)
  • writer (Read, Write, Edit)
  • ops (Bash, Read, Write)

Pre-fill scaffold + caps based on role choice. User still does interview for company-context/style/priorities.

Why defer

  • EA users explore the space, templates premature
  • Capabilities binding needs more thought (security model)
  • Real usage will reveal which roles matter most

extent analysis

TL;DR

Implement role templates as a separate feature after the early access phase, focusing on predefined roles like engineer, researcher, writer, and ops.

Guidance

  • Identify the key capabilities for each role template, such as Bash, Edit, and Write for the engineer role.
  • Develop a security model to handle capabilities binding and ensure secure role template implementation.
  • Create a user interface to allow users to select a role template and then complete an interview for company-specific details.
  • Prioritize role templates based on user feedback and real usage during the early access phase.

Notes

The implementation of role templates depends on the outcome of the early access phase and the development of a security model for capabilities binding.

Recommendation

Apply workaround by deferring the implementation of role templates until after the early access phase, allowing for user feedback and security model development.
