Root Cause

Codex and ChatGPT Desktop are easy to distinguish in the Dock because their icons are visually different: ChatGPT is white/black, Codex is blue/purple.

Codex and ChatGPT Desktop are easy to distinguish in the Dock because their icons are visually different: ChatGPT is white/black, Codex is blue/purple.

However, once both apps are open, their dark left sidebars look almost identical. The current Appearance settings allow changing accent/background/foreground colors, but they do not meaningfully change the left sidebar color.

Please add a separate theme option for the left sidebar, e.g.:

  • sidebarBackground
  • sidebarAccent
  • navigationBackground

Use case: When ChatGPT Desktop and Codex Desktop are open side by side, I often paste content into the wrong app because both windows look nearly the same in dark mode. A distinct sidebar color would make the current app immediately recognizable, just like the Dock icons already are.

Example:

  • ChatGPT sidebar: dark/neutral
  • Codex sidebar: blue/purple tinted

This would be a small UI customization, but a big usability and safety improvement.
