Workaround I applied site-wide: drop every loading.tsx, every <Suspense fallback={...}> wrapping an async server component, and every next/dynamic({ loading: ... }) used inside async server parents. The async children then render inline (slower TTFB, no skeletons). After the workaround the boundary opener is normal $? -> $ flow again and pages render correctly.

To Reproduce
Any of the following three patterns triggers the bug on Next 16.2.6 + React 19.2.6. The page renders the fallback skeleton permanently and never swaps in the resolved content, even though the resolved content is server-rendered and sitting in <div id="S:N" hidden> ready to be moved.

Current vs. Expected behavior
Expected: the fallback paints during the async resolution and then gets swapped for the real content as soon as the server stream finishes / the dynamic chunk loads, same as on Next 15.x.
Actual: the fallback never gets swapped. The DOM ends up in this state and stays there forever:

The React 19 $RC (completeBoundary) implementation walks comment siblings of the B:N template looking for the boundary's opener comment. It only knows how to handle openers $? (pending) and $! (errored). When the opener is $~ (postponed - from React's PPR/resume protocol) the function silently no-ops.
So either:
- Next.js's prerender is writing
$~in a context where the resume that's supposed to fill the boundary never runs, or $RCneeds to learn how to swap$~-marked boundaries, or- The resume payload that should fill chunk
eends up beinge:"$W26"->26:[](verified in the RSC stream) instead of pointing to the real subtree chunk that holds the rendered content.
I traced one example payload in detail: chunk 22: contains the real ["$","main",null,{...}] tree, but the deferred reference $@e in the layout's children resolves through e:"$W26" -> 26:[] (empty), so the boundary is "resolved" to no content while the real content sits orphaned in chunk 22 + hidden div#S:0.

Same surface as #87534 (loading state shown despite content being available) but consistent and permanent, not flicker. Distinct from #86151 (soft-navigation router.refresh stuck).
Workaround I applied site-wide: drop every loading.tsx, every <Suspense fallback={...}> wrapping an async server component, and every next/dynamic({ loading: ... }) used inside async server parents. The async children then render inline (slower TTFB, no skeletons). After the workaround the boundary opener is normal $? -> $ flow again and pages render correctly.
It would be very valuable to either get $RC to handle $~ boundaries, or get Next's prerender to not emit $~ openers in contexts where the resume can't fill them. Until then, async server components inside any Suspense boundary are effectively broken on 16.2.6.
