What happens

When Claude asks the user a multiple-choice question via the interactive question prompt (the AskUserQuestion UI), the prompt does not render correctly in my terminal. The options/selectable choices are garbled/unreadable, so the picker is effectively unusable — I have to reject the tool call and answer in plain text instead.

Expected

The question + selectable options should render as a clean, navigable list (arrow keys / number selection), like other interactive Claude Code prompts.

Environment

  • Claude Code: 2.1.150
  • Terminal: kitty 1.0.0 (TERM=xterm-256color)
  • OS: macOS 26.3 (build 25D125), arm64

Notes

Other interactive prompts (permission prompts, plan approval) render fine in the same terminal — the issue appears specific to the multiple-choice question UI. Happy to provide a screenshot or screen recording if helpful.

Another batch ranked right after the header list — different links, same matching logic.
