Hi Codex team,

I’d like to request an improvement for the remote connection experience.

Currently, when using Codex in a remote environment, the CLI needs to be installed or updated manually. This creates friction, especially when switching between machines or working in frequently rebuilt remote environments.

It would be great if Codex could handle this automatically, similar to how VS Code Remote works:

  • Detect whether the required CLI is installed on the remote machine
  • Automatically download and install the correct version if missing
  • Automatically update the CLI when the local/client version requires it
  • Avoid requiring users to manually run update commands each time

This would make the remote workflow much smoother and reduce setup overhead.

Thanks!

Another batch ranked right after the header list — different links, same matching logic.
