Preflight Checklist

  • I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Issue: The app launches but is stuck on a completely grey/blank screen and never renders.

My setup:

  • MacBook Pro 14-inch, November 2024
  • Chip: Apple M4 Pro
  • macOS: Sequoia 15.7.4 Troubleshooting I've already tried:
  • Force quit and relaunch
  • Cleared all cache folders (~/Library/Application Support/Claude, ~/Library/Caches/Claude)
  • Full uninstall and clean reinstall
  • Checked Privacy & Security settings — no blocks found
  • Launched via Terminal: /Applications/Claude.app/Contents/MacOS/Claude
  • Launched with --disable-gpu flag, which returned this error: "Error: GPU access not allowed. Reason: GPU access is disabled through command line switch --disable-gpu and --disable-software-rasterizer."
  • Reset app permissions via Terminal: tccutil reset All com.anthropic.claudefordesktop None of the above resolved the issue.

I also have NO console app logs...

The app was previously working and stopped rendering randomly. Could you please help me get this resolved?

What Should Happen?

extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue might be related to GPU access or rendering, and trying an alternative rendering mode or checking for macOS updates could help resolve the blank screen issue.

Guidance

  • The error message "Error: GPU access not allowed" when launching with the --disable-gpu flag suggests a potential issue with GPU access or rendering.
  • Since the app was previously working and stopped rendering randomly, it's possible that a recent macOS update or a change in the system's graphics settings might be causing the issue.
  • Try checking for any available macOS updates and install them, as this might resolve any compatibility issues with the app.
  • If possible, try launching the app on a different macOS system or with a different GPU configuration to isolate the issue.

Example

No specific code snippet is applicable in this case, as the issue seems to be related to system configuration or compatibility.

Notes

The lack of console app logs makes it difficult to diagnose the issue further. If the problem persists, providing more detailed system information or logs might help in identifying the root cause.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Try checking for macOS updates and install them, as this might resolve any compatibility issues with the app. This is a safe and non-invasive step that could potentially resolve the issue without requiring significant changes to the app or system configuration.
