Preflight Checklist

  • I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

  • Step 4: Bash runs immediately, no prompt
  • Step 5: Edit tool shows a normal permission prompt (diff view + Yes/No)
  • The mode label in the status bar is blank (should show "auto" or similar)

What Should Happen?

In auto mode, both Bash and Edit tool calls should be auto-approved with no permission prompt.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open a Claude Code session
  2. Press shift+tab three times to cycle through permission modes (default -> acceptEdits -> plan -> ?)
  3. The fourth state has a blank/empty label in the status bar
  4. Ask Claude to run a Bash command not on any allowlist (e.g. hostname)
  5. Ask Claude to make a file edit

Claude Model

Sonnet (default)

Is this a regression?

Yes, this worked in a previous version

Last Working Version

2.1.121

Claude Code Version

2.1.140

Platform

Anthropic API

Operating System

Windows

Terminal/Shell

Windows Terminal

Additional Information

The shift+tab cycle appears to loop after this state (pressing shift+tab again returns to default), suggesting this blank state occupies the auto mode slot in the cycle.

Another batch ranked right after the header list — different links, same matching logic.
