What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

26.429.61741

What subscription do you have?

ChatGPT Plus

What platform is your computer?

macOS

What issue are you seeing?

I can log into ChatGPT and Codex Web successfully using the same account.

However, the Codex macOS desktop app keeps asking me to log in again and cannot complete authentication properly. Sometimes phone verification/OTP does not work inside the app.

I already tried:

Reinstalling the app Clearing cache and application data Using different internet connections Disabling VPN/extensions Incognito/private mode login flow

The issue only happens on the Codex desktop app for macOS.

Account email: [email protected]

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open the Codex desktop app on macOS
  2. Click “Sign in with Google”
  3. Select the same Google account used successfully on ChatGPT Web and Codex Web
  4. Complete the Google authentication flow
  5. The app redirects back and keeps asking to log in again instead of completing authentication

Additional notes:

  • ChatGPT Web login works
  • Codex Web login works
  • Only the macOS desktop app fails
  • Reinstalling and clearing cache did not help
  • Different networks and disabling VPN/extensions also did not help

What is the expected behavior?

Expected behavior: The Codex macOS desktop app should complete Google authentication successfully and log into the account normally without returning to the login screen again.

extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue might be related to the Codex desktop app's authentication flow, and checking the app's authentication redirect URI or token handling could provide insight into the problem.

Guidance

  • Verify that the Google authentication flow is correctly configured in the Codex desktop app, ensuring the redirect URI matches the expected format.
  • Check if there are any known issues with Google authentication in the Codex desktop app version 26.429.61741.
  • Attempt to use a different authentication method, if available, to isolate the issue to the Google authentication flow.
  • Consider reaching out to the Codex support team for further assistance, as the issue persists despite trying various troubleshooting steps.

Notes

The provided information suggests that the issue is specific to the Codex desktop app on macOS, and the user has already tried several troubleshooting steps without success.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Try using a different authentication method or reach out to the Codex support team for further assistance, as the root cause of the issue is unclear.
