claude-code - 💡(How to fix) Fix [BUG] Claude Code Desktop SSH to Hostinger KVM4 VPS - process.spawn exits with code 1 on every message

What's Wrong?

Environment:

• Claude Code Desktop: latest
• OS: Windows 11
• VPS: Hostinger KVM4, Ubuntu 24.04 LTS
• Claude Code on server: v2.1.131
• ccd-cli version: 2.1.128

What happens: Every message sent via SSH remote session crashes with "Claude Code process exited with code 1". SSH connection appears to establish successfully but crashes when spawning ccd-cli.

What I've tried:

• SSH key authentication (no passphrase) ✅
• Added server to known_hosts ✅
• Ran ccd-cli first-run wizard manually as non-root user ✅
• Upgraded Node.js to v20 ✅
• Cleared /root/.claude/remote/ cache ✅
• Created non-root user (stimulate) and ran first-run wizard ✅
• Updated SSH config with StrictHostKeyChecking no ✅
• Firewall open on port 22 ✅

Server log from /root/.claude/remote/remote-server.log:

Expected: Message is processed and response returned Actual: ccd-cli spawned, receives initialize payload, immediately exits with code 1

Note: Running /root/.claude/remote/ccd-cli/2.1.128 --version works fine. Running it with --dangerously-skip-permissions fails with "cannot be used with root/sudo privileges". First-run wizard completed successfully as non-root user (stimulate) but SSH connection still crashes.

What Should Happen?

i should be able to log into ssh on external server via claude code desktop
