Error Message

Error Messages/Logs

Root Cause

In this repository on github.com, Claude code, with [github-actions] closed my issue because it was deemed a duplicate of another one. However, the I submitted my issue because the "duplicate" one was closed and locked for inactivity, and there were instructions to "If you're experiencing a similar issue, please file a new issue and reference this one". So I did, but it got quickly closed because the old original is a duplicate, and provide instructions to "If this is incorrect, create a new one". I assume that one would also get closed promptly because it's another duplicate. Is there a way out of this loop?

What Should Happen?

Closed issues, especially those closed for inactivity, should not be a reason for closing new ticket as duplicate.

extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue can be resolved by rephrasing the new issue to clearly state why it's not a duplicate of the previously closed one, providing additional context or details that differentiate it.

Guidance

  • When creating a new issue, explicitly mention that the previous issue was closed for inactivity and explain why the new issue is not a duplicate, providing any relevant new information or context.
  • Reference the previous issue, but also clearly state what makes the new issue unique or why it requires separate attention.
  • Consider adding a statement like "I've reviewed the previous issue, but it was closed for inactivity and does not address my current problem" to help distinguish the new issue.
  • If the issue continues to get closed as a duplicate, try to engage with the maintainers or moderators to explain the situation and provide additional context.

Example

No code snippet is applicable in this case, as the issue is related to GitHub issue management and not code-specific.

Notes

The effectiveness of this approach relies on the maintainers or moderators reviewing the new issue carefully and understanding the context. If the issue continues to be closed as a duplicate, it may be necessary to escalate the issue or seek further clarification.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Rephrase the new issue to clearly state why it's not a duplicate, providing additional context or details, as this approach allows for a more nuanced explanation of the issue and may help avoid automatic closure as a duplicate.
