claude-code - 💡(How to fix) Fix [BUG] Claude Code process exited with code 1 immediately, hadFirstResponse=false [3 comments, 2 participants]

Preflight Checklist

• I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

• Error happening in the Claude Desktop app in Code mode

• Prior to the crash starting (around May 7-8), manually deleted several
  git worktrees from a project to clean up old Claude sessions

  • First occurrence: May 9 at startup, after the app downloaded bundled
    binary 2.1.128 (replacing the previously working 2.1.121)

  What we've ruled out:

  • Not project-specific — crashes on ALL local projects including new ones
  • Not a missing session file — new sessions crash too
  • Binary works fine when invoked directly from terminal (both --print mode and interactive PTY mode)
  • Binary works with --plugin-dir, --permission-mode, --effort, --model flags
  • The crash is instantaneous (0ms), before any output is produced
  • Updating app to 1.6608.2 did not fix it
  • Full reinstall did not fix it — app re-downloads same 2.1.128 binary

  Log pattern (every crash):

  Using Claude Code binary at: .../2.1.128/claude.app/Contents/MacOS/claude
  → immediate: process exited with code 1 (0s, hadFirstResponse=false)

• App version: 1.6608.2 (ebf1a1)

  • Binary: 2.1.128
  • Error: Claude Code process exited with code 1 immediately, hadFirstResponse=false
  • Affects ALL local projects, not just one
  • Full reinstall did not fix it
  • System CLI (2.1.138) works fine from terminal
  • Sentry event ID: 814abb0c2ac343bc8279650d0ac167cd

I can't open any session
