Root Cause

During the day, Claude Code used up my entire "Extra usage" budget of $130, because Sonnet was stuck on 1M context version without me realising. There was no indication that it was using money instead of my Max plan. In addition, it was rather confusing because the new Opus 4.7 model has 1M context, but selecting that does not deplete my extra usage budget.

Preflight Checklist

  • I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

I'm a $200/month Max plan subscriber. Yesterday morning (18th April) I had $130 of extra usage budget in my account.

Please can you reinstate my $130 of extra usage? I've tried clicking the "Get help" button on your site but it does nothing.

extent analysis

TL;DR

The user's extra usage budget was depleted due to unintended use of the Sonnet 1M model, and they are requesting a reinstatement of the $130 budget.

Guidance

  • Verify the current usage and billing settings in the Claude Code account to understand the billing structure and model usage costs.
  • Check if there are any notifications or alerts that can be set up to inform the user when the extra usage budget is being depleted.
  • Review the model selection process to ensure that the user is aware of the costs associated with each model, particularly the Sonnet 1M model.
  • Consider reaching out to the Claude Code support team through an alternative channel, as the "Get help" button is not functioning.

Notes

The issue seems to be related to a lack of clear indication of model usage costs and a non-functional support button, rather than a technical issue with the code itself.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: The user should try to contact the Claude Code support team through an alternative channel to request a reinstatement of the $130 budget and to report the issue with the "Get help" button.
