Preflight Checklist

  • I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Cowork tab rises CPU temperature to spike from 53°C to 83°C when opened, even when entirely idle right in your Claude Code interface.

Today newly installed Claude Desktop on Windows 10 in VirtualBox guest (8GB RAM). When run with 16GB RAM, it still produces 75°C doing exactly nothing.

What Should Happen?

The whole Claude Code desktop client is a piece of very poorly programmed software.

It should be the bedrock to be able to make experiments and development.

Instead, it is a source of problems of its own. Unfriendly to developers, unfriendly to end user (not recommendable to them at the moment).

extent analysis

TL;DR

The high CPU temperature spike when opening the Cowork tab in Claude Code may be related to a resource-intensive process or a bug in the latest version.

Guidance

  • Investigate the system resource usage when the Cowork tab is open to identify potential bottlenecks.
  • Try reducing the RAM allocation for the VirtualBox guest to see if it affects the temperature spike.
  • Compare the system behavior with the previous working version to identify potential regressions.
  • Consider reporting the issue with more detailed system specifications and logs for further assistance.

Notes

The issue seems to be related to a specific version of Claude Code, but the exact version number is not provided. The fact that it worked in a previous version suggests a potential regression.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Try reducing the resource allocation or switching to a previous version if possible, as the issue seems to be related to a specific version of Claude Code.
