Preflight Checklist

  • I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Claude Desktop v1.3036.0 (cf521c) on Windows 11 Home.

Every Cowork message fails immediately with "Something went wrong - Claude Code process exited with code 1". Both new sessions and previously-working sessions fail. Regular Claude chat works fine — only Cowork is affected.

Cowork was working normally on this machine for months prior to today. No system changes were made on my end.

This appears to be the same failure pattern as issue #46029 (filed April 10 on build 1.1617.0), but now recurring on the latest build.

What Should Happen?

Cowork messages should process normally, as they did prior to today.

Error Messages/Logs

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open Claude Desktop v1.3036.0 on Windows 11 Home
  2. Switch to Cowork
  3. Send any message (new session or existing)
  4. Error appears immediately

extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue with Cowork messages failing immediately in Claude Desktop v1.3036.0 on Windows 11 Home may be related to a regression, and a potential fix could involve waiting for an update or trying to revert to a previous version that worked.

Guidance

  • The error pattern is similar to issue #46029, which suggests a possible regression in the latest build, so monitoring for updates or patches related to this issue might be beneficial.
  • Since the problem is specific to Cowork and not regular Claude chat, there might be a specific configuration or setting within Cowork that's causing the conflict, but without more details, it's hard to pinpoint.
  • Given that the issue is marked as a regression and worked in a previous version, if possible, trying to use a previous version of Claude Desktop that worked might provide a temporary workaround.
  • Reviewing system and application logs more thoroughly might provide additional clues, though the provided error message is quite generic.

Example

No specific code snippet can be provided due to the lack of technical details about the implementation or APIs used by Claude Desktop.

Notes

The provided information lacks specific technical details about the error, such as detailed logs or system configurations, which makes it challenging to provide a precise fix. The issue seems to be related to a regression, which implies that an update or patch might be necessary to resolve it.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Given the information, the best course of action seems to be waiting for an update that addresses this regression or trying to revert to a previous version of Claude Desktop that worked, as the issue is confirmed to be a regression and no other immediate fixes are apparent from the provided information.
