Preflight Checklist

  • I have searched existing issues and this hasn't been reported yet
  • This is a single bug report (please file separate reports for different bugs)
  • I am using the latest version of Claude Code

What's Wrong?

Cowork tab shows:

"Virtualization is not available — Claude's workspace requires Virtual Machine Platform, but the virtualization service isn't responding. Restart your computer to resolve this."

Restarting the computer does not resolve the issue.

What Should Happen?

Expected Behavior Cowork should detect that virtualization is enabled and successfully start the workspace. Actual Behavior Cowork permanently shows the virtualization error. The VM never initializes. Notes

Regular Chat in Claude Desktop works fine — only Cowork is affected This appears to be the same known bug as #27316, #29887, #32004, #42227, #45715

extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue may be related to a known bug with virtualization, and checking the virtualization settings or updating the Virtual Machine Platform might resolve the issue.

Guidance

  • Check if Virtual Machine Platform is enabled in Windows Features: Ensure that the Virtual Machine Platform is turned on in Windows Features, as this is a requirement for Claude's workspace.
  • Verify virtualization support in BIOS settings: Confirm that virtualization is enabled in the BIOS settings, as this could be a hardware-level issue.
  • Investigate known bugs: Review the mentioned bug reports (#27316, #29887, #32004, #42227, #45715) to see if any of the suggested fixes or workarounds apply to this situation.
  • Check for updates: Look for any updates to the Virtual Machine Platform or Windows that may resolve the issue.

Notes

The issue seems to be specific to the Cowork tab and does not affect the regular Chat in Claude Desktop, suggesting that the problem might be related to the virtualization requirements of the Cowork feature.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Given the similarity to known bugs, trying the workarounds or fixes suggested in those bug reports might be the best course of action, as there is no clear indication that an update to a fixed version is available.
