What's Wrong?

Claude Codes Windows Desktop Application was perfectly fine, then it crashed and I had to uninstall and reinstall, now it wont open at all, just returns an error that says: "Claude Desktop failed to launch. Please check for updates and try again. If the issue persists, contact support at support.claude.com" I then went to trouble shooting, even Claude's Support chat couldn't understand. So it finally sent me here.

What Should Happen?

It should open, I uninstalled and redownloaded the version right from the site.

Error Messages/Logs

"Claude Desktop failed to launch.

Steps to Reproduce

Download claude desktop setup .exe file. Then Observe error?

There isnt a logical reason this is occurring so I don't know how to replicate.

Additional Information

Sorry, That may be the wrong version number, I remember it had a 6, 1, and 7, in it. If i could open the app I would be able to see the version, but I also wouldn't be submitting this bug either so.

extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue with Claude Desktop failing to launch after uninstalling and reinstalling may be related to a permission issue or a problem with the service configuration, and a potential workaround could be to check the service logs for more detailed error messages or try running the application as an administrator.

Guidance

  • Check the Windows Event Viewer for any error messages related to the Claude Desktop application or the CoworkVMService.
  • Try running the Claude Desktop application as an administrator to see if it resolves the issue.
  • Verify that the CoworkVMService is running and configured correctly in the Windows Services manager.
  • Check for any updates to the Claude Desktop application and install the latest version.

Example

No specific code example is applicable in this case, as the issue appears to be related to a configuration or permission problem rather than a code-specific issue.

Notes

The exact cause of the issue is unclear, and more information may be needed to provide a definitive solution. The provided logs do not show any obvious errors, but there is a warning message indicating an "Access is denied" error when trying to open the service for recovery config.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Try running the application as an administrator and check the service logs for more detailed error messages. This may help resolve the issue or provide more information about the cause of the problem.
