What's Wrong?

I am a Claude Pro Annual subscriber. Starting April 9, 2026, a series of unauthorized billing events occurred on my account without any action on my part. Timeline:

Apr 9: Annual renewal charged successfully ✅ Apr 16: A second invoice appeared for "Gift Max 20X - 1 months" — a product I never ordered. Status: Overdue. Apr 16–19: Repeated Stripe payment confirmation emails for this unknown product. Apr 19: My plan was silently changed from Pro Annual (valid until April 2027) to Max monthly (expiring May 19, 2026) — without any action or consent on my end. Apr 19–20: Internal credits and storni applied automatically (−€103.88), duplicate invoices generated. Apr 20: Two new Stripe emails for "Gift Max 5X - 1 months" — again, a product I never ordered.

Possible trigger: Anthropic sent me a promotional one-time free credit for extra usage (email received early April). I redeemed the voucher. Shortly after, the billing system began generating unauthorized invoices. Support experience:

Ticket open since Apr 16 — Conversation ID: 215473937152899 All responses from Fin AI Agent only — no human billing specialist has responded AI agent initially attempted to process an unwanted refund that would have cancelled my subscription Chat support confirmed escalation to human specialist — still waiting

Expected Behavior

Actual Behavior

Plan changed to Max monthly expiring May 19, 2026 Multiple Overdue invoices for unknown products Billing system generating new invoices autonomously with changing amounts Available credit decreasing without explanation

extent analysis

TL;DR

The most likely fix involves Anthropic's billing system being corrected to prevent unauthorized invoices and plan changes, potentially by reversing the effects of the redeemed free usage credit voucher.

Guidance

  • Investigate the relationship between redeeming the free usage credit voucher and the subsequent billing issues, as this may be the trigger for the unauthorized activity.
  • Review the account's billing history and subscription settings to identify any inconsistencies or unexpected changes.
  • Escalate the support ticket to a human billing specialist, as the Fin AI Agent's responses have not adequately addressed the issue.
  • Consider reaching out to Anthropic's support team via an alternative channel, such as email or phone, to expedite the resolution process.

Example

No code snippet is provided, as this issue appears to be related to the billing system and subscription management, rather than a code-specific problem.

Notes

The issue may be related to a bug or glitch in the billing system, as evidenced by the similar issues reported in #41499, #47290, and #48780. Resolving this issue may require manual intervention from Anthropic's support team to correct the account's billing settings and subscription plan.

Recommendation

Apply a workaround by escalating the support ticket to a human billing specialist and requesting a manual review of the account's billing history and subscription settings to identify and correct any errors. This approach is recommended because the automated responses from the Fin AI Agent have not adequately addressed the issue, and human intervention is necessary to resolve the problem.
