Error Message

Claude Code suddenly logged out on its own without any action from my side. After re-authenticating, it prompted me to select a subscription plan again, and then showed a "credit balance is too low" error — even though I'm on a Pro plan and rarely hit usage limits. 5. "Credit balance is too low" error appears Claude Code should maintain the authenticated session and recognize the active Pro plan without requiring re-selection or showing a credit error. Unexpected logout → re-auth triggers plan selection prompt → "credit balance is too low" error despite active Pro subscription.

What's Wrong?

Describe the bug Claude Code suddenly logged out on its own without any action from my side. After re-authenticating, it prompted me to select a subscription plan again, and then showed a "credit balance is too low" error — even though I'm on a Pro plan and rarely hit usage limits.

The issue resolved itself after doing a manual claude logout followed by claude login again without selecting any plan or adding API credits.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Using Claude Code normally on a Pro plan
  2. Claude Code suddenly logs out on its own (no action triggered)
  3. Re-authenticate via claude login
  4. After authorization completes, prompted to select a subscription plan
  5. "Credit balance is too low" error appears
  6. Workaround: run claude logoutclaude login again → issue resolved

Expected behavior Claude Code should maintain the authenticated session and recognize the active Pro plan without requiring re-selection or showing a credit error.

Actual behavior Unexpected logout → re-auth triggers plan selection prompt → "credit balance is too low" error despite active Pro subscription.

Workaround Running claude logout and claude login a second time (without selecting a plan or adding API credits) resolves the issue.

Environment

  • Plan: Claude Pro
  • Claude code

Additional context This seems like a session token issue where re-authentication incorrectly routes to API/Console billing instead of the existing Pro plan credentials.
