Error Message

Even if I retry the pairing flow by scanning the QR code shown in Codex Desktop on Laptop A, nothing happens. The mobile app does not switch to Laptop A, add Laptop A as a new connection, or show an actionable error. Alternatively, scanning the QR code from Laptop A should replace the stale Laptop B connection, add Laptop A as the active Codex Desktop connection, or show a clear error explaining why pairing cannot proceed. Scanning the QR code from Laptop A does nothing: the mobile app does not connect to Laptop A, does not replace the stale connection, and does not show an actionable error.

Root Cause

  1. Revoked the permission/connection from Laptop B.
  2. Signed out from all devices, because I saw guidance suggesting this may be required to reconfigure Codex Mobile.
  3. Opened ChatGPT for iOS.
  4. Went to Codex > Connections.
  5. Tried to remove the existing configured Codex Desktop entry, shown as something like my-macbook-pro-16.local.

What issue are you seeing?

What version of the Codex App are you using?

Version 26.513.31313 (2867)

What subscription do you have?

Enterprise

What platform is your computer?

macOS 26.5

What platform is your mobile device?

iOS 26.5
ChatGPT for iOS: 1.2026.123 (25565698938)

What issue are you seeing?

I use Codex Desktop on two laptops.

I intended to connect Codex Mobile to Laptop A, but accidentally connected it to Laptop B. After realizing the mistake, I tried to reset the connection:

However, I cannot remove that existing Codex Desktop configuration. I am now stuck with the stale/wrong desktop entry and cannot reconfigure Codex Mobile to connect to the intended laptop.

Even if I retry the pairing flow by scanning the QR code shown in Codex Desktop on Laptop A, nothing happens. The mobile app does not switch to Laptop A, add Laptop A as a new connection, or show an actionable error.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Have Codex Desktop installed on two laptops using the same OpenAI account.
  2. Pair Codex Mobile with the wrong laptop, Laptop B.
  3. Revoke the desktop permission/connection.
  4. Sign out from all devices.
  5. Sign back in on ChatGPT for iOS.
  6. Go to Codex > Connections.
  7. Try to remove the previously configured Codex Desktop connection.
  8. Open Codex Desktop on the intended laptop, Laptop A.
  9. Scan the QR code from Laptop A using ChatGPT for iOS.

What is the expected behavior?

Expected behavior

I should be able to remove a stale or revoked Codex Desktop connection from Codex > Connections, then pair Codex Mobile with the correct laptop.

Alternatively, scanning the QR code from Laptop A should replace the stale Laptop B connection, add Laptop A as the active Codex Desktop connection, or show a clear error explaining why pairing cannot proceed.

Actual behavior

The old Codex Desktop connection remains configured and cannot be removed, even after revoking permission and signing out from all devices.

Scanning the QR code from Laptop A does nothing: the mobile app does not connect to Laptop A, does not replace the stale connection, and does not show an actionable error.

Impact

This blocks Codex Mobile setup. If the wrong laptop is selected during initial pairing, there appears to be no way to cleanly remove, replace, or recover the desktop connection from the mobile app.

Additional information

  • The stale desktop entry name is similar to: my-macbook-pro-16.local
  • Desktop Codex app: Version 26.513.31313 (2867)
  • Desktop platform: macOS 26.5
  • Mobile platform: iOS 26.5
  • ChatGPT for iOS: 1.2026.123 (25565698938)
  • Subscription: Enterprise
  • It would help if the mobile app exposed a reliable “Remove desktop connection” or “Reset Codex Mobile pairing” action.
  • It would also help if QR-code pairing showed an explicit success/failure state instead of silently doing nothing.
  • I do not know whether this is a mobile-side stale connection state, a server-side connection record, or a desktop-side revocation/sync issue.
