Goal

Capture provider-returned usage/cost metadata for image generation where the upstream response includes it.

Scope

  • Investigate GPT Image 2 direct OpenAI/Azure Images API payloads
  • Investigate LiteLLM GPT Image 2/OpenAI-compatible payloads
  • Investigate fal/Flux payloads
  • Investigate MAI Image provider route
  • Add metadata passthrough only for providers that return usage/cost fields
  • Verify with unit tests and, if useful, small live test generations

Notes

Requested by Colt on 2026-05-22 for cost calculation. Do not synthesize fake usage for providers that do not return it.
