What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

What subscription do you have?

What platform is your computer?

MacOS: Darwin 25.4.0 arm64 arm

What issue are you seeing?

When I use ChatGPT in VSCode (Codex), after adding the Code, the ChatGPT app shows the info "Code (Inactive)". The latest version of the ChaTGPT app and the latest Codex extension are installed. Interestingly, I used the oldest Codex version 0.1.1741261060 (one year ago), which works very well with Code. Can the team fix the issue for the latest version? Thanks a lot.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Just use the latest Codex extension and ChatGPT app, and then select "working with Code"; you will see the Code (Inactive).

What is the expected behavior?

No response

Additional information

The issue is from the Codex extension.

extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue with ChatGPT showing "Code (Inactive)" in the latest Codex extension version may be resolved by investigating compatibility issues between the latest Codex extension and the ChatGPT app.

Guidance

  • The fact that an older version of the Codex extension (0.1.1741261060) works well with Code suggests a potential regression or compatibility issue introduced in later versions.
  • To troubleshoot, try to identify any changes in the Codex extension or ChatGPT app that could be causing the incompatibility.
  • Consider testing the latest Codex extension with an older version of the ChatGPT app to isolate the issue.
  • If the issue is confirmed to be with the Codex extension, the development team may need to release an update to fix the compatibility problem.

Notes

The provided information suggests the issue is specific to the interaction between the Codex extension and the ChatGPT app, but without more technical details about the changes in the latest versions, it's challenging to provide a precise fix.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Given that an older version of the Codex extension is known to work, using that version until an update is released might be the most straightforward workaround.
