Error Message

Then it fails with the following error: stream disconnected before completion: error sending request for url (https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses) stream disconnected before completion: error sending request for url (https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses) Codex should respond normally to the prompt instead of repeatedly reconnecting and failing with a stream disconnected error. I can provide screenshots if needed. The screenshot shows Codex repeatedly reconnecting from 1/5 to 5/5 and then failing with the stream disconnected error.

Root Cause

The issue is not related to a specific repository or prompt because it happens even with a simple message.

What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

Codex App version: 26.513.31313

The Codex app is not working for me. When I send any prompt, even a very simple one like “привет”, the app gets stuck reconnecting.

It repeatedly shows:

Reconnecting... 1/5
Reconnecting... 2/5
Reconnecting... 3/5
Reconnecting... 4/5
Reconnecting... 5/5

Then it fails with the following error:

stream disconnected before completion: error sending request for url (https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses)

This happens consistently and prevents me from using Codex at all.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open the Codex desktop app.
  2. Start a new chat/task.
  3. Send a simple prompt, for example: “привет” or “hello”.
  4. Wait for the response.
  5. The app starts reconnecting multiple times.
  6. After several reconnect attempts, it fails with:

stream disconnected before completion: error sending request for url (https://chatgpt.com/backend-api/codex/responses)

I tried the following, but the issue still happens:

  • Logging out and logging back in
  • Reopening the app
  • Reinstalling the Codex app
  • Creating a new chat/task
  • Refreshing/retrying
  • Trying very short prompts
  • Trying with VPN changes / network changes

The issue is not related to a specific repository or prompt because it happens even with a simple message.

What is the expected behavior?

Codex should respond normally to the prompt instead of repeatedly reconnecting and failing with a stream disconnected error.

Additional information

I can provide screenshots if needed. The screenshot shows Codex repeatedly reconnecting from 1/5 to 5/5 and then failing with the stream disconnected error.

The issue happens even with a very short prompt, so it does not appear to be caused by context size, token limit, or a specific repository.
