Root Cause

This blocks active Codex work because the user cannot reliably continue after reaching the weekly shared agentic usage limit. Manual credit purchase works, but auto-reload does not appear reliable.

What issue are you seeing?

Codex credit auto-reload is marked Active, but it does not trigger a top-up when my credit balance is below the configured minimum balance.

Current visible state:

  • Credits remaining: 1,000
  • Auto-reload: Active
  • Minimum balance: 1,100
  • Target balance: 1,800
  • UI estimates: “Minimum 700 credit will be purchased, equivalent to US$28.00”
  • Save button is disabled after the values are accepted/saved

Expected behavior is that auto-reload should immediately purchase enough credits to bring the balance up to the target, or clearly explain that reload only occurs after a future credit usage event.

This also happened previously when I reached my weekly usage limit. I had auto-reload configured around 200-250 credits, but when the balance crossed the threshold it did not top up and I hit zero instead.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open Codex usage/analytics page.
  2. Have remaining credits at 1,000.
  3. Enable auto-reload credit.
  4. Set minimum balance to 1,100.
  5. Set target balance to 1,800.
  6. Confirm the UI shows an estimated purchase of 700 credits / US$28.00.
  7. Observe that auto-reload remains Active but no credit purchase occurs and credits remain at 1,000.

Previously, when my weekly usage limit was exhausted and my credit balance crossed the configured threshold, auto-reload also did not purchase credits automatically.

What is the expected behavior?

If auto-reload is Active and the current credit balance is below the configured minimum, Codex should either:

  1. immediately purchase enough credits to reach the target balance, or
  2. clearly state that auto-reload only triggers on future credit consumption events.

When credits are actually consumed and cross the minimum threshold, auto-reload should purchase credits automatically instead of allowing the balance to reach zero.

Additional information

This blocks active Codex work because the user cannot reliably continue after reaching the weekly shared agentic usage limit. Manual credit purchase works, but auto-reload does not appear reliable.
