What happened?

After the latest Codex Windows desktop app update, the dictation / voice-to-text feature started misdetecting spoken Chinese as other languages or incorrect non-Chinese text.

The same microphone and same Chinese speech work correctly in ChatGPT web voice-to-text, so this does not appear to be a microphone, browser, or OS-level permission problem.

  • The issue started after today's Codex app update.
  • Windows AppX deployment logs show Codex updated from:

  • Update time observed locally: 2026-05-16 11:19 Asia/Shanghai.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open the Codex Windows desktop app.
  2. Click the dictation / voice-to-text button.
  3. Speak a Chinese sentence.
  4. Stop dictation.
  5. Observe that the transcribed text is detected as another language or incorrect non-Chinese text.

Expected behavior

Chinese speech should be transcribed as Chinese, matching ChatGPT web voice-to-text behavior.

Actual behavior

Chinese speech is misrecognized as other languages after the latest Codex Windows app update.

Impact

This breaks Chinese voice input in the Codex desktop app and significantly affects daily usage for Chinese-speaking users.

Please prioritize investigation or consider rolling back/fixing the language auto-detection behavior for Codex dictation on Windows.
