Root Cause

For example on the page Directives: use cache:

  • The href on upgrading Next.js is: https://nextjs.org/docs/app/building-your-application/upgrading/canary
  • https://nextjs.org/docs/app/building-your-application/upgrading/canary redirects to https://nextjs.org/docs/app/getting-started/deploying. The redirect happens because /docs/app/building-your-application redirects to /docs/app/getting-started/deploying.

What is the documentation issue?

The link upgrading Next.js in the canary information box leads to Getting Started: Deploying. There is no relevant information about upgrading to canary on the Getting Started: Deploying page.

Is there any context that might help us understand?

For example on the page Directives: use cache:

  • The href on upgrading Next.js is: https://nextjs.org/docs/app/building-your-application/upgrading/canary
  • https://nextjs.org/docs/app/building-your-application/upgrading/canary redirects to https://nextjs.org/docs/app/getting-started/deploying. The redirect happens because /docs/app/building-your-application redirects to /docs/app/getting-started/deploying.

The correct href for upgrading Next.js is https://nextjs.org/docs/app/getting-started/upgrading#canary-version.

Suggestion to fix: Update the href on upgrading Next.js to https://nextjs.org/docs/app/getting-started/upgrading#canary-version.

I'm happy to create a PR, but from what I have seen the canary information box is not a public component.

Does the docs page already exist? Please link to it.

extent analysis

TL;DR

Update the href on the "upgrading Next.js" link in the canary information box to https://nextjs.org/docs/app/getting-started/upgrading#canary-version.

Guidance

  • Verify the current link redirect: Check that https://nextjs.org/docs/app/building-your-application/upgrading/canary indeed redirects to https://nextjs.org/docs/app/getting-started/deploying to confirm the issue.
  • Identify the component: Determine how the canary information box is generated and where its content is managed to apply the fix.
  • Update the href: Change the link in the canary information box to the correct URL, https://nextjs.org/docs/app/getting-started/upgrading#canary-version, as suggested.
  • Test the fix: After updating the link, verify that it now correctly directs to the intended page without any redirects.

Notes

The fix assumes that the canary information box's content can be modified directly or through a pull request, as mentioned by the reporter.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Update the href as suggested, since the current link leads to an irrelevant page, causing confusion for users seeking information on upgrading to the canary version of Next.js.

Another batch ranked right after the header list — different links, same matching logic.
