Root Cause

Please bring back the chat-style interface for the desktop app, or at least offer it as a theme option. The terminal already exists for people who want the terminal look. The desktop app was valuable to me precisely because it didn't look like that.

Problem Statement

The desktop app's Claude Code UI used to match the Claude chat design. Clean message bubbles, readable backgrounds, the whole reason I used the desktop app instead of the terminal.

The new desktop version mimics the terminal instead. User messages are blue for some reason, the dark mode backgrounds are much darker and less polished, and overall the design feels like a clear downgrade from what was there before.

Proposed Solution

Bring back the old design as an option.

extent analysis

TL;DR

The desktop app's UI design should be revised to offer the previous chat-style interface as an option to improve user experience.

Guidance

  • Review the design changes made in the new desktop version to identify specific elements that were altered, such as message bubble styles and background colors.
  • Consider adding a theme option to the desktop app that allows users to choose between the current terminal-like design and the previous chat-style interface.
  • Gather user feedback to determine the most popular design elements and prioritize their implementation.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of implementing a customizable theme system to accommodate different user preferences.

Example

No specific code example can be provided without more technical details, but a potential approach could involve adding a theme selection feature to the app's settings menu.

Notes

The solution depends on the specific technologies and frameworks used in the desktop app, which are not specified in the issue. Additionally, user testing and feedback may be necessary to ensure the new design meets user needs.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Offer the previous chat-style interface as a theme option to provide users with a choice and improve their experience. This approach allows users to select the design that best suits their needs, addressing the reported issue without requiring a complete redesign.
