Error Message

  • Interaction metadata (command types, latency, error rates)

Root Cause

When prompted to share session logs to help improve Claude Code, I declined — not because I am unwilling to help, but because the documentation indicates that entire generated source code may be included in what is sent. For users working with proprietary or confidential codebases this makes consent impossible regardless of willingness to contribute.

Problem Statement

When prompted to share session logs to help improve Claude Code, I declined — not because I am unwilling to help, but because the documentation indicates that entire generated source code may be included in what is sent. For users working with proprietary or confidential codebases this makes consent impossible regardless of willingness to contribute.

I would be happy to share feedback if the data shared were limited to things like:

  • Interaction metadata (command types, latency, error rates)
  • Aggregated tool usage patterns
  • Explicit thumbs-up/thumbs-down ratings on responses
  • Opt-in per-response feedback without the surrounding code context

Version: 2.1.141

Proposed Solution

Request: Allow (a) exclusion source code and file contents from session logs sent to Anthropic, (b) provide a clear breakdown of exactly what is and is not included so users can make an informed consent decision and (c) per-item include/exclude. Perhaps also a "send metadata only" option that excludes file content would likely convert many current opt-outs into opt-ins, especially if the exact upload was viewable with opt-in/out per component.
