Observation

OpenClaw ships 30+ versions per month (April 2026 alone had 30+ releases including betas). The engineering velocity is impressive. But the product seems to have a supply-side bias — features keep growing while the majority of users never engage with 90%+ of OpenClaw's capabilities (skills, subagents, cron, sessions orchestration, etc.).

Concern

At this stage of the product lifecycle, aggressive feature development feels like the wrong priority. Most users haven't reached the ceiling of what's already built. More features without user education and adoption support means:

  • Plugins and capabilities stay dormant in user workflows
  • Documentation is written for developers, not for end users
  • Community contributions have fewer real-world validation opportunities

Suggestion

A 60/40 split — 60% promotion + onboarding, 40% iteration — would likely serve the product better at this moment. The 'install and forget' pattern is the biggest risk to long-term retention.

This is not a bug report. It's an outside perspective from a daily user who believes in the product's potential.

extent analysis

TL;DR

The product's aggressive feature development should be balanced with user education and adoption support to improve retention and utilization of existing features.

Guidance

  • Reassess the current development priorities to allocate more resources to user onboarding, education, and support.
  • Consider a 60/40 split between promotion/onboarding and iteration to address the 'install and forget' pattern.
  • Evaluate the current documentation to ensure it is user-centric and provides sufficient guidance for end-users.
  • Explore opportunities for community contributions to validate and improve the product's existing features.

Notes

The suggested approach may require significant changes to the product's development strategy and resource allocation. It is essential to weigh the potential benefits against the potential costs and challenges of implementing such a shift.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Allocate more resources to user education and adoption support to address the 'install and forget' pattern and improve retention. This approach can help increase user engagement and utilization of existing features, ultimately leading to long-term growth and success.
