What issue are you seeing?

Hello everyone,

I’ve been developing on Windsurf for a while now. Two days ago, I installed the Codex extension (version 0.5.78) for the first time. Initially, I was using it with my ChatGPT Plus account, but I upgraded to ChatGPT Pro ($200/month) specifically to access more powerful models, especially GPT-5.5.

Right now, I do have access to several models, including GPT-5.4, with different reasoning levels which is great. However, I don’t see GPT-5.5 available anywhere.

I’ve already tried logging out and back in, updating everything, checking settings, and restarting Windsurf, but nothing changed.

So my questions are:

Is it normal that GPT-5.5 is not available in Codex (Windsurf extension), even with a ChatGPT Pro account?

Or did I miss something in the setup or configuration?

My goal is really to stay within Winsurf using Codex, but with access to the most powerful models available.

Thanks in advance for your help :folded_hands:

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Actually, I’ve never had access to the GPT-5.5 model, which I find quite strange since it was released more than 10 days ago. Since I installed Codex, I haven’t been able to use GPT-5.5 at all. So the issue is very easy to reproduce, as it happens all the time.

I’m not sure whether this is normal or not.

What is the expected behavior?

gpt 5.5 model isn't available

extent analysis

TL;DR

The user may need to wait for an update to the Codex extension or check the extension's documentation for any specific requirements to access the GPT-5.5 model.

Guidance

  • Check the Codex extension's documentation or release notes to see if there are any known issues or limitations with accessing the GPT-5.5 model.
  • Verify that the ChatGPT Pro account is properly linked to the Codex extension and that all necessary permissions are granted.
  • Reach out to the Codex extension support team or the ChatGPT Pro support team to inquire about the availability of the GPT-5.5 model and any potential issues with the current setup.
  • Consider checking the extension's version and updating it if necessary, as the issue might be resolved in a newer version.

Notes

The issue might be related to the Codex extension's compatibility with the GPT-5.5 model or a limitation on the ChatGPT Pro account. Without more information from the extension's documentation or support team, it's difficult to provide a definitive solution.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Check the extension's documentation and reach out to support teams to resolve the issue, as the problem may not be directly related to the user's setup.
