Summary

Build a workflow and checkpoint system that makes long-running Hermes tasks resumable, inspectable, and safer to operate.

Proposed scope

• Support named checkpoints per task/session.
• Allow resume-from-checkpoint with summarized state and filesystem diff context.
• Add rollback preview for agent-made changes where feasible.
• Model task DAGs such as research -> implement -> test -> summarize.
• Add human approval gates between workflow stages.
• Persist workflow state so CLI, gateway, dashboard, and cron can all reason about it.

Acceptance criteria

• Users can create, list, and resume named checkpoints.
• Checkpoints include enough metadata to understand what changed and what remains.
• Workflow state survives process restarts and is usable outside the original client surface.
