This issue happened on both Codex app (macOS) and CLI. The error keep happens, but works normally when I change from GPT-5.4 to GPT-5.3-codex. I think this is socket response API issue.

extent analysis

TL;DR

Switching to the GPT-5.3-codex model may serve as a temporary workaround for the socket response API issue.

Guidance

  • Verify that the issue persists across different terminal emulators to rule out Ghostty-specific problems.
  • Test the Codex CLI with other models to determine if the issue is specific to GPT-5.4 high.
  • Check for any updates to the Codex CLI, as a newer version may address the socket response API issue.
  • If possible, try reproducing the issue on a different platform to see if it's specific to Darwin 25.4.0 arm64 arm.

Notes

The exact cause of the issue is unclear, but it appears to be related to the GPT-5.4 high model. Without more information about the error message or the uploaded thread, it's difficult to provide a more specific solution.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Switch to the GPT-5.3-codex model until a more permanent fix is available, as it has been reported to work normally in the given scenario.
