What happened?

Environment:

  • Gemini CLI Version: 0.37.0
  • Operating System: Windows (win32)
  • Subscription Tier: Google AI Plus (via Google One)

Description: I have an active Google AI Plus subscription through Google One, which should grant me access to the Gemini 3.1 models. However, when I log in to the Gemini CLI using the associated account, the Gemini 3.1 model is not available for selection in the model list.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Launch Gemini CLI and sign in with the Google account linked to the Google One AI Premium subscription.
  2. Run the /model command within the interactive session.
  3. Select the Manual option to view the list of available models.
  4. Observe that gemini-3.1-pro-preview is missing from the list.
  5. Attempt to launch the CLI directly using: gemini --model gemini-3.1-pro-preview.
  6. The CLI fails to recognize or switch to the requested model.

What did you expect to happen?

Expected Behavior: The gemini-3.1-pro-preview model should be listed under the Manual selection in the /model menu, or automatically activated when selecting Auto (Gemini 3) for eligible subscribers.

Actual Behavior: The Gemini 3.1 model is not listed as an option, and the CLI does not automatically route to it.

extent analysis

TL;DR

The Gemini 3.1 model is not available due to potential issues with subscription tier recognition or model availability in the Gemini CLI.
