What is the issue?

My Windows 11 Enterprise machine seems to have stopped the Ollama Automatic Updates with version 0.17.1.

No idea if that is related but, lately, I've been seeing a .VBS (Visual Basic Script) "Open With..." dialogue box upon every OS Restart (I don't restart very often but rather Hybernate my machine each evening, unless Security Updates require an OS Restart). It is a Company laptop with strict Group Policies and a Security Framework.

The Ollama App is active in the System Tray (the icon is right-clickable and brings the context menu normally, all the options work, just... It stopped nudging me to Update when there's a new version.) The Auto-Download Updates option is On and I haven't touched that or anything else, so I suppose that it is rather a local Environmental issue on my machine.

extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue with Ollama Automatic Updates stopping on Windows 11 Enterprise may be related to environmental or configuration issues, and checking the script execution policies or updating Ollama to a newer version could potentially resolve the issue.

Guidance

  • Investigate the ".VBS (Visual Basic Script) 'Open With...' dialogue box" issue, as it might be related to the problem with Ollama Automatic Updates, possibly due to a change in script execution policies.
  • Verify that the Ollama application has the necessary permissions and is properly configured to run automatic updates.
  • Check for any Group Policy or Security Framework updates that might be interfering with the Ollama application.
  • Consider updating Ollama to a newer version, if available, to ensure compatibility with the current Windows 11 Enterprise environment.

Notes

The provided information lacks specific error messages or log output, making it challenging to pinpoint the exact cause. The issue might be related to the company's Group Policies or Security Framework, which could be restricting the execution of scripts or updates.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Check and adjust script execution policies and permissions for the Ollama application, as this seems to be the most likely cause of the issue, given the appearance of the ".VBS 'Open With...' dialogue box" upon restart.
