Bug Description

When using the QClaw desktop client (Settings 鈫?Check for Updates), after the update download completes and the user clicks "Restart Now", the program does not respond at all. Subsequently, the desktop shortcut shows a broken icon and the program cannot be launched again. The only recovery is to download a new installer and reinstall.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open QClaw desktop client
  2. Go to Settings 鈫?Check for Updates
  3. Update download completes
  4. Click "Restart Now"
  5. Observe: no program response, and then the shortcut becomes broken

Environment

  • OS: Windows 10/11
  • QClaw Version: 0.2.19 (previous version number unknown, confirmed after reinstall)
  • Installation: Desktop client

Expected Behavior

After clicking "Restart Now", the program should shut down and restart with the updated version.

Actual Behavior

The program does not respond, and the shortcut becomes invalid. Manual reinstall is required to recover.

Possible Cause

The updater successfully downloads and replaces files, but after killing the old process, the new process fails to start correctly. The shortcut target path or icon cache may be corrupted as a result.

Logs

  • C:\Program Files\QClaw\install.log shows reinstall (2026-05-15 08:46) completed successfully
  • %userprofile%.qclaw\logs\ contains no update-related log files
  • The specific error log for the update failure was not preserved

Workaround

Download the full installer and manually overwrite the installation directory files using 7-Zip.

Suggestions

  1. Recommend exiting QClaw before performing an update
  2. Improve logging for update restart failures
  3. Consider adding an automatic rollback mechanism for failed updates
