extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue with Cowork being non-functional due to the Claude Code process exiting with code 126 may be resolved by investigating compatibility issues with the latest version of Claude Code and macOS Tahoe 26.4.

Guidance

  • Verify that the issue persists across different Claude models, such as switching from Sonnet to another model, to isolate if the problem is model-specific.
  • Check the system logs for any additional error messages that may provide more context about why the Claude Code process is exiting with code 126.
  • Attempt to start a session in a different environment, such as a different macOS version or a virtual machine, to see if the issue is specific to the current setup.
  • Consider reaching out to the development team or support for further assistance, as the issue is reported as a regression and may require specific patches or updates.

Notes

The lack of information about the last working version and any additional details limits the ability to provide a more targeted fix. The guidance provided is based on the information given and aims to help narrow down the cause of the issue.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Given the regression nature of the issue and the lack of a clear fix, applying a workaround, such as potentially downgrading to a previous version of Claude Code if possible, or waiting for an update that addresses the compatibility issue with macOS Tahoe 26.4, seems like the most viable option.
