Fix Action

Fix / Workaround

Claude code edit approval diff view changed after April 15 update — red/green diff no longer shown by default Body: • What it looked like before (yesterday): when Claude proposed an edit, you could see the before/after red/green diff inline as part of the approval step • What it looks like now (after today's update): no diff shown during approval — you have to manually switch to Verbose view to see changes • Why this matters: reviewing changes before approving is a core safety workflow, and the new default hides that • Workaround found: Verbose transcript view exposes the red/green lines, but it's not the same flow and it add way too much to the coding process

I applied NO changes to appearance of functionality before the update which changed the interface significantly

What Should Happen?

the previous versions had the allow button and the code viewable and scrollable before you approved without having verbose on

extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue can be temporarily mitigated by switching to the Verbose view to see the red/green diff during the approval step.

Guidance

  • The change in behavior after the April 15 update suggests that the default view for edit approval diffs was altered, hiding the red/green diff.
  • To verify the issue, create some changes to code with "ask permissions" enabled and observe the approval step to see if the diff is hidden by default.
  • The workaround of using the Verbose transcript view can expose the red/green lines, but it alters the workflow.
  • The fact that this worked in a previous version and is now considered a regression implies that a fix might involve reverting or adjusting the recent changes related to the approval diff view.

Example

No specific code snippet is provided or implied in the issue that could be used as an example for a fix.

Notes

The exact cause of the change in behavior is not specified, and without access to the codebase or more detailed information about the update, providing a precise fix is challenging. The issue seems to be related to a change in the default view settings for edit approvals in Claude Code.

Recommendation

Apply the workaround by using the Verbose view to see the red/green diff during approval, as there is no clear indication of when or if a version with the default behavior restored will be available. This workaround allows for the continuation of the safety workflow, albeit with an altered process.
