Problem Statement

After the recent update to claude.ai/code (desktop), the dark mode redesign doesn't feel right. The combination of a pure black background with bright blue user message bubbles and blue accent text looks dated and harsh, like something from an older UI era. It feels like a noticeable downgrade from the previous version, which felt more polished and modern.

What changed:

Background is now solid black instead of the more refined dark gray tones from before. User messages are rendered as saturated blue bubbles that clash with the rest of the UI. Overall the interface reads as less premium than the previous dark theme. What worked before: The previous dark theme had softer, layered grays and muted accents. Reading long threads was easier on the eyes and the UI felt cohesive.

Surface: claude.ai/code (desktop) Theme: Dark mode OS: Windows 11 Request: Please either revert to the previous dark mode styling or give users the option to choose between the old and new themes (or a better theme). Screenshot below.
