What version of the Codex App are you using (From “About Codex” dialog)?

What platform is your computer?

What issue are you seeing?

The Codex desktop pet/avatar overlay is clipped. This affects all pets, not just Null Signal. The pet notification/chat bubble tray is clipped too: text and buttons can be cut off, and the pet sprite appears partially cropped.

Setup:

  • Codex app: 26.429.30905, build 2345
  • macOS Mac mini viewed remotely from a Mac laptop via Finder / Screen Sharing
  • Display as seen by Codex during debugging: 1920x1080, scale=1.0
  • Feedback uploaded without logs: 019de5af-72e9-71c2-951e-5b37c603e8fe

Important clue: This happens on the Mac mini while it is being viewed via macOS Screen Sharing/Finder. The same pet feature works fine on my laptop without Screen Sharing, so Screen Sharing / remote display handling may be involved. I’m not sure it is causal, but it seems like a useful reproduction clue.

What I tried:

  • Restarted Codex and force quit/reopened it.
  • Changed pets under Settings > Appearance.
  • Reset the saved avatar overlay bounds.
  • Changed app zoom; the pet overlay stays the same size and does not scale with app zoom.

Expected: The pet/avatar and notification tray should render fully within the overlay window, with tray text/buttons visible and not clipped.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Open Codex app 26.429.30905, build 2345, on a Mac mini.
  2. Connect to the Mac mini from a Mac laptop using Finder / macOS Screen Sharing.
  3. In Codex, open Settings > Appearance and wake/show the pet.
  4. Trigger or wait for a pet notification/chat bubble.
  5. Observe that the pet sprite and notification tray are clipped.

I also tried changing pets, restarting/force quitting Codex, resetting saved avatar overlay bounds, and changing app zoom. The clipping persisted.

What is the expected behavior?

The pet/avatar and notification tray should render fully within the overlay window. Pet sprites should not be cropped, and notification tray text/buttons should remain visible and clickable.

Additional information

This affects all pets, not just Null Signal.

Display as seen by Codex during debugging: 1920x1080, scale=1.0.

App zoom does not affect the pet overlay; the pet stays the same size when app zoom changes.

extent analysis

TL;DR

The issue is likely related to the remote display handling via macOS Screen Sharing, causing the pet/avatar overlay and notification tray to be clipped in the Codex app.

Guidance

  • Verify that the issue persists when using a different remote desktop solution or when the Mac mini is used directly without Screen Sharing.
  • Check if the issue is specific to the Codex app or if other applications exhibit similar clipping behavior when used with Screen Sharing.
  • Test the Codex app with a different display configuration, such as a different resolution or scale factor, to see if the issue is related to the display settings.
  • Consider reporting the issue to the Codex app developers with detailed reproduction steps and system information, including the feedback ID 019de5af-72e9-71c2-951e-5b37c603e8fe.

Notes

The issue may be related to how the Codex app handles remote display rendering, and further investigation is needed to determine the root cause.

Recommendation

Apply workaround: Test the Codex app without Screen Sharing to see if the issue persists, and report the issue to the developers with detailed reproduction steps and system information.
