What platform is your computer?

Windows 11

What issue are you seeing?

Even when I explicitly ask it to just think through a problem, not touch code, it often will still edit files. This has happened twice and it burned tokens both editing AND reverting. I think I will switch to Claude, this is wild. There are multiple reports of this problem but they're all closed so I'm reporting it again.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

Working on next.js project. Given enough time, Codex goes rogue and I have to verbally beat him back into his sandbox.

What is the expected behavior?

If I explicitly say to just think through a problem, the bot should not then go on an editing spree, but instead respond with potential solutions, next steps, developer stories, suggested code changes. It should not directly edit files, commit and push changes to prod. I think this is pretty obvious personally.
