codex - 💡(How to fix) Fix Pro 5x: weekly limit dropped from ~ to ~ after June 1; quota drains passively even when not using Codex

What issue are you seeing?

Two separate but related issues since June 1, 2026:

1. Weekly limit pool massively reduced Before June 1, my weekly limit was approximately $1447–$1500 (consistent with the 10x promotional period for Pro 5x). After the 2x promotion ended on May 31, instead of dropping to the expected ~$700–$800 (standard 5x), my weekly limit shows approximately $250. That is roughly 1/6 of the pre-June limit, far below what a simple promotion rollback would produce.

2. Passive quota drain — quota decreases without usage I have repeatedly observed that both the 5-hour window and the weekly limit percentage decrease on their own while I am NOT using Codex at all. This happens consistently:

• I open Codex and see one percentage, close it without any work, reopen later and see a lower percentage
• I have taken extensive measures to rule out account compromise:
  • Revoked all authorized connections/applications
  • Signed out of all devices
  • Changed my account password
  • Re-logged in from scratch
  • The problem persists through all of these steps

This strongly suggests a quota accounting/display bug on the server side, not actual usage being consumed.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

1. Note the current 5-hour window and weekly limit percentages
2. Close Codex completely
3. Wait a few hours without using Codex at all
4. Reopen Codex — both percentages often show as decreased

What is the expected behavior?

• Weekly limit should be at the standard Pro 5x level (~$700–$800) after the promotion ends, not ~$250
• Quota should NOT decrease when Codex is not being used
• The displayed percentage should reflect actual usage, not phantom consumption

Additional information

There are multiple related reports in the community:

• Several GitHub issues about quota display bugs (#26370 meters starting at 99%, #23188 weekly usage dropped from 70% to 7% at reset boundary, #26253 limits went from 77% to 0 in one minute)
• Threads on V2EX, Reddit r/codex, and LINUX DO all reporting similar experiences with Pro 5x limits post-June 1
• The combination of promotion rollback + accounting/display bugs seems to be producing wildly incorrect quota readings for Pro 5x users
